The Jacaranda mimosifolia, commonly known as the Jacaranda tree or Blue Jacaranda, is a sub-tropical tree known for its stunning display of vibrant purple-blue flowers. Here are some of its key features:

1. Appearance: The tree is large and fast-growing, often reaching between 25 and 50 feet in height, though some may grow taller. It has a wide, open branching structure that forms a rounded crown. The bark is greyish-brown and relatively smooth.

2. Leaves: The leaves of the Jacaranda mimosifolia are fern-like and feathery, composed of small leaflets. These leaves are deciduous, meaning they fall off during the winter or dry season.

3. Flowers: The most striking feature of the Jacaranda mimosifolia is its clusters of vibrant purple-blue flowers. These appear in the late spring and early summer, before the leaves, creating a breathtaking floral display. After the blossoms fall, the tree produces woody, disc-shaped seed pods.

4. Growth: Jacaranda trees prefer full sun and well-drained soil. They are relatively drought-tolerant but perform best with regular watering.

5. Use: Due to their dramatic flowering, Jacarandas are often used as ornamental trees in landscapes. They can create a beautiful shade canopy, but their fallen flowers can be somewhat messy, so they are often planted in areas where this won't be a problem.

6. Climate: Jacaranda mimosifolia is a sub-tropical tree and does not tolerate frost well. It is commonly seen in warmer climates, such as in southern and western parts of the United States, Australia, and parts of Africa and South America.
